Lot of 2 French Playing Card Decks, Vintage Jeu De La Pucelle, Jaenee D'Arc, Philosophes De L'an II

Sorry, this item has sold.

A vintage set of 2 decks of playing cards made in France.

One deck is called Jeu De La Pucelle 15 Siecle, or Maid Game 15th Century. A card in English inside states this is a reproduction of a set of cards by master cardmaker Jehan Personne that Jaenne D'Arc the Maid of Orleans gave the seal of distinction of an outstanding piece. The deck is complete with all 52 cards plus three cards with this and other information on them. The cards have been used but are all in nice straight shape. The box has a small tear where the top opens and minor soiling.

The second deck is labeled Jeu Des Philosophes De L'an II. and has the names Voltaire, J.J. Rousseau, Moliere, and L Fontaine as the Kings in this card deck. On the top box flap it says XVIII Siecle for 18th century. A card in English inside says this deck ( a reproduction) was published in Paris by master Gayant in the year II (1793). The Philosophers have replaced the Kings, the Virtues the Queens, and the Soldiers of the Republic the Knaves. The cards have had careful use and all are in straight nice shape. The box has a tear at the top corner and minor soiling.
